Part of Course 2 of the UI/UX Design Specialization through CalArts and Coursera. The brief was the create an app concept, from function, roles and client/designer goals. From there, the site map was to be made, and the app designed. Once the design was complete, a clickable prototype was made through Adobe XD.

Ember
The Interactive Quit-Smoking App
"Ember: There for you long after you quit."

Ember is an aid for smokers who wish to quit. Using information provided by the user, Ember will begin to keep track of the process of quitting, while providing helpful tips, goals and even distractions for smokers trying to quit.
Often, it is easy to allow a quit-smoking app to run, but eventually forgetting about it. Ember will utilize user-enabled push notifications at peak craving times set by the user. As the peak craving time nears (mornings, lunch breaks at work, etc.), Ember will send a push notification with a distracting activity, especially during the first 3-4 days as the nicotine leaves the user’s body.
Each cigarette craving typically lasts for 10-20 minutes, which is the time that Ember will fill by sending activities to do, or a small puzzle game while the craving passes. In addition to distraction activities, Ember will also have weekly health and “wallet” updates and goal checkpoints sent to remind the user of why they are quitting smoking.
By setting not only the information to track (how many smoked per day, how much money per pack, how long they have been smoking, etc.), but also goals and intentions, users will see the money they save, their health progress, as well as their progress towards their tangible goals. Ember will also employ a social aspect, allowing users to communicate with other users trying to quit smoking as well, creating a sense of community and reinforcement.
